Toronto Brace Yourself For G20 & G8

The world economic leaders will be in Toronto for next few day to discuss everything from economics to social issues. The representatives for these events are know as the G2o or G8.

The G20 consists of the 20 strong world nations and the G8 consisting of 8.

Usually when such events take place, the hosting city is on lockdown. This year we see it in Toronto, where it seems everything is on constant lock down.

Basically what this means for most Torontonians, those who live or work in the city is massive delays and basically a very quiet downtown. Along with protests and drama. The authorities however are on the hunt for any trouble makers.

Really this whole protesting idea is funny. Protests are not at all a Canadian thing. At least not in the provinces other then Quebec. We see most protesting done in foreign lands. Most recently Greece, who on any given day would love nothing more then to protest.

My big question is why are most foreign countries willing to protest, argue, and demand more yet Canada sits back and accepts the state of the country as is. Now I fully understand that Canada is very well off and we have it really well. Yet when it comes to politics and knowing what is going on in our own country, Canadians don't have much of an idea. I can guarantee that more Canadians are familiar with any global event rather then local.

The World Cup So Far

The 2010 World Cup has so far gone off to a slow start, apart from the calm and confident German team. This years tournament has been under a bit of scrutiny regarding location, ball and those noise makers the vuvuzela.

The decision to host in South Africa was one of Sepp Blatter's ideas to rotate the tournament. So it would one year be in Africa, then South America and so on. Since then the idea has been binned, however South Africa won the right to host. Many felt that bringing the world there was an idea more so for politics. The reality is that South Africa isn't the richest of nations nor the safest. The stadia are struggling to fill over 30,000 people and so on. Truth be told, South Africa could probably host the tournament best of all the other African Nations. However the time just doesn't seem right. We can give the tournament just out of political correctness. It needs to be in a nation that is equipped.

I would like to add that in 1995 South Africa hosted and won the Rugby World Cup. It was an amazing event. However Rugby doesn't attract the crowds football does. And It's a more popular sport on South Africa.

So far a lot of players and staff have complained a bit about the ball. Saying it's too bouncy. Now I haven't physically held or played with the ball. But from what I have seen on TV it seems that I would agree with the complaints.

Now the Vuvuzela. Wow, could that be any more annoying. FIFA debated banning it, but with drew that thought. Even though players were complaining the noise was effecting concentration.

Once again FIFA lets the global world of football down.

One Day To Go

It's been a bit too long since the last posting. So from this point on I will make the effort for a daily blog.

Tomorrow is the kick off to the 2010 World Cup. The excitement is all around.

One thing I personally love about the World Cup is the commercials. And although Adidas is the official sponsor of the tournament, and adidas tends to make brilliant commercials. My hat this year, so far, goes to Nike for their incredible ad featuring some of the games top stars.

You will notice in the nike ad that two stars in it, will not feature in the cup.

World Cup

World Cup South Africa 2010

Seeing as that we are so close to the world's biggest tournament starting, I think it's important we write something about it.

The World Cup is the greatest tournament in the world. This year sees it for the first time in the African Continent.
When South Africa won the right to host it many people and nations were some what disappointed. People including South Africans felt they were not ready to host such a prestige event. I personally think it will be great. I'm a huge rugby fan too, and back in 1995 South Africa hosted the Rugby World Cup. It was an amazing cup with South Africa winning. I can guarantee that it wont be the case in this tournament.

The favorites this time around are Brazil, Spain, and even England. Many are saying Argentina too, however I feel that under Maradona, Argentina will not win.

Living in Canada, we will see the first matches starting at 7:15 am with the last one starting at 2:15 pm. So for many we will be at work. But this year the CBC will be showing all the games online! So there is no need to leave your cubicle, desk, beach, backyard....anywhere your football heart desires. We can enjoy it anywhere!
The tournament kicks off June 11. And for one month the world will enjoy a unity created by a ball and passion.

Here is all the time's from the
